Trucks, sedans, and family SUVs make up most of the vehicles behind title loans in Indiana, and the equity already sitting in them is what backs the loan. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne lead the application volume we see in the state.
A vehicle-secured loan leans on what your car is worth, so a thin credit file isn't a dealbreaker. Approval can be wrapped up the same day, and most Hoosier borrowers leave with funds before the end of business.

When you apply for a title loan in Indiana, we look at your car's make, model, year, mileage, and condition to figure out what it's worth. Once your loan is approved, a lien is added to your title at the Indiana BMV.
That lien is what lets us hold your title as collateral until the loan is paid off. As soon as you finish paying, the lien comes off and your title is fully yours again.
Even though we hold your title, your car stays with you. You can drive it to work, run errands, take the kids to school, do whatever you normally do, as long as you keep up with your payments.
In Indiana, lenders are also not allowed to ask for a set of your keys. Your keys stay with you, just like your car.
Title loans in Indiana are installment loans. You repay them in monthly payments, and Indiana law sets no minimum or maximum term.
Your term and payment amount are set in your loan agreement. Every payment pays down part of the balance.
There's no state minimum or maximum on how much you can borrow in Indiana. The amount comes down to what your car is worth and what you can comfortably pay back.
If you miss payments, here's what Indiana law says has to happen before your car can be repossessed:
That gives you at least a full month to catch up or make alternative arrangements before losing your vehicle. If you expect a payment may be difficult, take action before the due date. In some cases, a payment extension or another option may be available to help you keep your car.
If a car is repossessed, getting it back usually means paying what you owe plus any towing or storage fees that came up.
Indiana Indiana lenders cannot take your keys. Your car, keys, and plates all stay with you while the loan is active.
| Loan Amount | Term | APR | Interest/Fees | Total Due |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | 12 months | 36.0% | $206 | $1,206 |
| $3,000 | 12 months | 35.5% | $608 | $3,608 |
| $5,000 | 12 months | 31.9% | $906 | $5,906 |
Examples show an amortized 12-month supervised loan at Indiana's maximum permitted finance charge under IC 37-2-4-35 — the greater of the tiered rate (36% per year on unpaid balances up to $2,600, 21% from $2,600 to $5,200, and 15% above $5,200) or 25% per year. Because the tiers apply to the unpaid balance, the effective rate rises as the loan is paid down.
The examples show the finance charge at that rate only; a nonrefundable prepaid finance charge of $75, $150 or $200, depending on the loan amount (IC 37-2-4-35(h)), may be added. Actual offers, terms and fees vary by lender.

Thinking about a title loan in Indiana? See if it's the right choice for you before you apply.
In many cases, the process can be done online. The Indiana BMV records vehicle liens electronically through its ELT program, so your title does not need to be mailed or handled in person.
You can start from home by submitting your information, uploading photos of your vehicle, and providing your ID and income documents. Once approved, you can review and sign your agreement electronically, and funds are sent to your bank account.
Yes. Title loans often come with high costs. Rate cap in Indiana: 36% / 21% / 15% a year by balance, or 25% a year if greater. Fees: Nonrefundable prepaid finance charge of $75 (principal $2,000 or less), $150 ($2,000 to $4,000) or $200 (above $4,000) (IC 37-2-4-35(h)); not inflation-adjusted. Our APRs go up to 150% and never exceed the cap set by state law. Even at the capped rate, a title loan usually costs more than a personal loan from a bank or credit union. The cost table in the Regulations section shows worked examples for Indiana.
Under Indiana law, refinancing and consolidation permitted (IC 37-2-4-8, 37-2-4-9); if a loan is paid off by a new loan from the same lender within 3 months, no new nonrefundable prepaid finance charge may be charged, and no more than two such charges in any 12 months (IC 37-2-4-35(j)).
Yes, if a payment is late. Indiana law caps the late fee at $25 on an installment unpaid 10 days after it is due ($5 where installments are due every 14 days or less) (IC 37-2-4-6(a)(2)).
Yes. You can pay off your loan early at any time, and there is no prepayment penalty.
Yes. You have a 3-business-day right to cancel at no cost by returning the cash or check, and this right must be displayed in the lending area and documents.

No credit check is needed to pre-qualify. A soft credit check may be required as part of the final approval process. That does not affect your FICO score. Borrowers with bad credit are welcome to apply: we focus mainly on your ability to repay and your vehicle's value and equity, rather than your credit score alone.
Yes. Your car's value sets how much you can borrow, and condition and mileage both affect that value. We usually lend 25% to 50% of your car's value, sometimes more. There is no mileage limit, and salvage or rebuilt titles can qualify with a lower appraisal. A car that doesn't run may still qualify, usually for less.
